As part of a drilling vessel upgrade project, our team delivered the engineering design package for the renewal of the existing helideck. Rather than replacing the entire structure, a detailed assessment was carried out to identify which structural members could remain in service and which sections required renewal. This approach reduced the amount of new fabrication required by retaining parts of the existing structure wherever possible.

The project began with a laser scanning survey of the helideck area to accurately capture the vessel’s as-built condition. Following a review of the applicable requirements of ICAO Annex 14 Volume II, including helideck layout, obstacle limitation criteria, and operational safety considerations, a detailed 3D model was developed using the scan data. The renewed structure was engineered to integrate seamlessly with the existing arrangement while maintaining the original helideck configuration.

The final deliverables included a complete engineering package consisting of 3D models, fabrication drawings, construction details, and material take-off (MTO) lists. This documentation provided all information required for procurement, fabrication, and onboard installation, supporting an efficient and well-coordinated helideck renewal process.
